Anagram Solver: Find Words From Letters
This free Anagram Solver helps you rearrange letters and discover valid words in seconds. Type a word, a set of scrambled letters, or the tiles on your rack. The anagram finder checks the available letters, applies your filters, and groups matching words by length so the most useful answers are easy to spot.
You can search for words that use any of your letters or switch to Use all letters when every tile must appear in the answer. Add up to two question marks for blank tiles, narrow the results by starting letters, ending letters, or a required letter sequence, then sort the list by length, score, or alphabetical order.

What is an anagram?
An anagram is a word or phrase made by rearranging the letters of another word or phrase. The letters in listen, for example, can be rearranged to make silent, enlist, inlets, and tinsel. A true full anagram uses every original letter the same number of times. Word-game players also use the term more loosely when making shorter words from a rack of letters.
Anagram examples
| Original letters | Anagram |
|---|---|
| LISTEN | SILENT |
| BELOW | ELBOW |
| STUDY | DUSTY |
| NIGHT | THING |
| PAINTER | PERTAIN |
| DESSERTS | STRESSED |
How this anagram finder works
The solver counts how many times each letter appears in your input. It then checks potential answers against those counts, which prevents a result from using a letter more often than your rack allows. A question mark acts as one unknown letter and can replace a missing tile. In exact mode, the answer must be the same length as the complete rack, so every letter and wildcard is used.
The displayed score follows familiar Scrabble-style English tile values. A wildcard contributes zero points for the letter it replaces. Because dictionaries and accepted word lists vary between games, always confirm an unusual word inside the game you are playing.
Anagram Solver for word games
An anagram maker is useful whenever a game asks you to make words from letters. It can help with Scrabble-style board games, Words With Friends, Boggle, Word Cookies, Text Twist, jumble puzzles, crosswords, and classroom vocabulary activities. For a crowded game board, use the advanced filters to find a word that begins or ends with letters already in place.
- For a rack of tiles: choose Use any letters and sort by highest score.
- For a scrambled-word puzzle: choose Use all letters to find exact anagrams.
- For a blank tile: enter ? where the unknown letter would be.
- For a board pattern: use Starts with, Ends with, or Contains to narrow the list.
- For a length clue: set both the minimum and maximum word length.
How to solve anagrams faster
Start by separating vowels from consonants. Look for common beginnings such as re, un, dis, and pre, then test endings such as ed, er, ing, ly, tion, and ment. Repeated letters are easy to overlook, so count each tile before committing to an answer. If the full anagram is difficult, make shorter words first; familiar letter pairs often become easier to see after the rack has been mentally rearranged.
Anagram Solver FAQ
What is an Anagram Solver?
An Anagram Solver is a word tool that rearranges entered letters and returns valid words that can be made from them. It can find exact anagrams or shorter words from a larger set of letters.
How do I use the anagram finder?
Enter your letters, choose whether answers may use any letters or must use them all, add optional filters, and select Find Anagrams. Results are grouped by word length.
Does an anagram have to use every letter?
A true full anagram uses every original letter exactly as often as it appears. Select Use all letters for full anagrams. Use any letters also returns shorter words for word games.
Can I use blank or wildcard tiles?
Yes. Enter ? for each blank tile. The solver supports up to two wildcards, and a wildcard contributes zero points to the displayed game score.
Can this solve multi-word or phrase anagrams?
This version finds single-word answers. Spaces in the input are ignored, but the results contain one word at a time rather than multi-word phrases.
Are all results valid in Scrabble or Words With Friends?
Not necessarily. The solver uses a broad English word list, while each game maintains its own accepted dictionary. Rare results should be checked in the game you are playing.
What is the difference between an Anagram Solver and a Word Unscrambler?
The tools often perform the same letter-matching task. Anagram Solver usually emphasizes rearrangements and exact anagrams, while Word Unscrambler is often used to recover words from mixed letters in puzzles and games.
Can an anagram generator create names or phrases?
This tool checks single English dictionary words. Names, brands, abbreviations, and creative phrases may not appear even when their letters match.
