Jumble Solver: Unscramble Letters and Find Words

This free Jumble Solver helps you turn mixed-up letters into possible words. Enter the scrambled letters from a word jumble, newspaper puzzle, classroom worksheet, or word game. The solver checks the available letters, places exact full-length answers first, and can also show shorter words made from the same jumble.

Choose Exact answers only when every letter must appear in the solution. Choose Exact + shorter words when you also want smaller combinations. You can enter up to two question marks for blank tiles and use the optional filters when you know the first letter, final letter, or another part of the answer.

1

Enter the jumble

Type the scrambled letters exactly as they appear. Spaces and punctuation are ignored.

2

Add what you know

Use a wildcard or open the filters to add known starting, ending, or included letters.

3

Find the answer

Check the exact answers first, then review shorter words if your puzzle allows them.

What is a word jumble?

A word jumble is a puzzle in which the letters of a word are placed in the wrong order. Your job is to rearrange those letters and recover the hidden word. Some jumbled-word puzzles include a picture, definition, sentence, or final clue. Others provide only the scrambled letters.

For example, the letters ELVI can be unjumbled into EVIL, LIVE, VEIL, or VILE. The clue determines which exact answer the puzzle expects. A Jumble Solver quickly reveals the possible arrangements so you can compare them with that clue.

How the Jumble Solver works

The solver counts each letter in your input, then compares those counts with words in its dictionary. A result cannot use a letter more times than it appears in the original jumble. When you enter a question mark, that blank can replace one missing letter. Exact answers have the same total length as your input, so they use every entered tile.

The clue is still important because one jumble can produce several valid words. The tool supplies possible answers, while the clue, image, sentence, or puzzle theme helps you choose the intended solution.

Daily Jumble and word scramble help

This word jumble solver can help with daily newspaper-style jumbles, scrambled-word games, anagram exercises, spelling practice, vocabulary worksheets, word cookies, Text Twist, Boggle, and rack-based board games. It solves single words rather than an entire multi-word final phrase, but each individual scrambled word can be entered and solved separately.

Tips for solving jumbled words

  • Separate vowels and consonants. This makes common word shapes easier to recognize.
  • Look for common beginnings. Try prefixes such as re, un, dis, pre, and non.
  • Test familiar endings. Common suffixes include ed, er, ing, ly, tion, and ment.
  • Keep repeated letters together. Double letters such as ll, ss, ee, and oo often reveal part of the answer.
  • Notice letter pairs. Combinations such as th, sh, ch, ph, qu, st, and ck occur frequently.
  • Use the clue's grammar. A past-tense clue may suggest ed, while a person may suggest er or ist.
  • Write the letters in a new order. A fresh arrangement can reveal patterns your eyes missed.

Jumble Solver vs Anagram Solver

Both tools rearrange letters, but the goal is slightly different. A Jumble Solver usually starts with random scrambled letters and tries to recover the hidden answer. An Anagram Solver often starts with an existing word and looks for other words made from the same letters. A Word Unscrambler is a broader name for either task, especially in word games.

Jumble Solver FAQ

What is a Jumble Solver?

A Jumble Solver is a word tool that rearranges scrambled letters and returns valid words that can be formed from them. It helps you identify possible answers to jumbled-word puzzles.

How do I solve a jumbled word?

Enter the mixed-up letters, choose whether you want exact answers only or shorter words too, add any known letter filters, and select Solve Jumble.

Does the answer use every letter?

Exact jumble answers use every entered letter. Select Exact answers only if that is required. The second mode also shows smaller words that use only part of the jumble.

Can I use a blank or unknown letter?

Yes. Enter ? for a missing or blank letter. The solver supports up to two wildcard tiles in one search.

Can this solve the Daily Jumble?

It can find possible answers for each individual scrambled word. You still need to use the puzzle clues and any circled letters to complete a final multi-word answer.

Why are there several exact answers?

The same letters can form more than one valid word. Use the puzzle's clue, sentence, picture, or theme to identify the intended answer.

Are all displayed words accepted in every word game?

No. Games and puzzle publishers use different dictionaries. Check unusual words against the rules of the specific game you are playing.

Can the solver handle phrases or multiple words?

This version returns single-word answers. Enter each scrambled word separately when working through a multi-part jumble puzzle.
